The Smile Generation Team Members Build a Playground and Dentists Perform Nearly $67,000 in Donated Dentistry
Team Members Partner with KaBOOM! and Chicanos Por La Causa to Build a Playground in One Day for Children in Phoenix, Ariz.
On Nov. 10, 2012, a dream became a reality for women and children recovering from domestic violence. In less than eight hours, a new play area was built at CPLC De Colores, a free domestic violence shelter that is owned and operated by Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), with the help of more than 200 volunteers from Smile Generation-trusted offices, Pacific Dental Services and non-profit KaBOOM!. The new playground will serve hundreds of children for years to come. The service was project was part of The Smile Generation’s annual Braveheart Outreach Mission.
The Smile Generation-trusted dentists and dental care team also set up an on-site dental clinic and, in a matter of hours, treated approximately 90 patients, providing nearly $67,000 in donated dental services. Treatments included cleanings, extractions, root canals and CEREC® CAD/CAM same-day crown restorations.
“The Smile Generation is committed to bringing smiles to people’s faces and we were excited to partner with KaBOOM! again to create a place for the children to play and a place for them to smile,” said We Serve Manager Kyle Guerin. “We are thrilled that we had a hand in helping to build a play area for the children and that we were able to serve the residents of CPLC De Colores with the on-site dental clinic that provided free dentistry to the families of CPLC De Colores.”
Planning for the playground began at a Design Day event held in September, when local children and community leaders met with organizers from KaBOOM!, CPLC and The Smile Generation to design their dream playground. The final playground design was based on the children’s drawings.
Strategic partners Crest Oral-B, Patterson Dental and Specialized Office Systems, donated supplies for this event.
