Smile Generation Serve Day: 2,000 Patients Served and $3.1 Million in Donated Dentistry Provided
Smile Generation®-trusted clinicians served patients during the Fourth Annual Smile Generation Serve Day.
More than 345 Smile Generation-trusted dental offices featuring more than 500 Smile Generation-trusted clinicians served their local communities on August 23, 2014, by participating in the fourth annual Smile Generation Serve Day. The clinicians and dental care teams provided donated dentistry to community members who would not otherwise have access to dental care, and were able to help more than 2,000 people during this charitable community event.
The dental offices teamed up with local organizations and community partners, such as youth centers, nonprofit organizations and churches, to identify individuals that were in need of basic dental care.
“It’s amazing what can be accomplished when people come together for one common goal. Serving others really is at the heart of The Smile Generation,” said Kyle Guerin, We Serve Manager.
One single mother had not been to the dentist in more than 10 years. The team at Smile Generation-trusted Issaquah Highlands Dental Group in Issaquah, Wash. completed scaling and root planing on her — a procedure that typically costs about $1,200. “She was very emotional,” Manager Ashley Deitch said. “It was her birthday the following week, and she said this was the best birthday present that she had ever received.”
Patients received everything from cleanings, exams, and Digital X-rays to extractions, implants and restorations.
At Smile Generation-trusted Falcon Park Dental Group in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Dr. Ashley Spooner and her assistants completed a full mouth CEREC® rehabilitation with 22 crowns, six veneers, and two root canals. A young girl starting her senior year of high school had come to the office in tears because she was getting made fun of at school due to a myriad of oral health issues. Her parents wanted so badly to help her but they did not have the money for the long list of treatments needed. Dr. Spooner elected to treat her for Smile Generation Serve Day and after 15 hours and $35,000 in donated dentistry, she has a new smile and a new beginning as she continues to grow into a beautiful, confident young woman.
Smile Generation Serve Day was supported in part by Henry Schein® Dental. Henry Schein is the largest provider of health care products and services to office-based practitioners.
