Serving Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County
Smile Generation® team members serve more than just smiles
A group of Smile Generation team members volunteered on Wednesday, June 2 to help at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Cans came in bunches and the team formed a mini assembly line to help load boxes. Items ranging from canned and boxed goods to non-food items like toothbrushes and toothpaste were sorted into organized boxes.
Did you know: There are more than 350,000 people in Orange County who don’t know where their next meal will come from. Knowing our efforts would help put a dent in that number made the day more than gratifying and worth every minute!
At the end of our time, we all felt a sense of fulfillment knowing this was a significant step towards ending hunger in Orange County. One of our newest team members was part of the crew, and summed up the effort saying, “This was only my second day on the job, but it is an experience and impression that is immeasurable and will never be forgotten.”
Second Harvest distributes donated, purchased and prepared foods through a network of more than 320 community partners in 470 locations throughout the county. Last year, Second Harvest provided enough food for more than 17.6 million meals, feeding more than 200,000 people each month.
