Root Canal Awareness Week March 17-23, 2013

This week, March 17-23, marks the 7th Annual Root Canal Awareness Week. Through this national effort, the American Association of Endodontists are raising awareness about their profession, so that patients and general dentists know to contact a specialist when a root canal is needed. Endodontists play an important role in maintaining our dental health.

  1. Root canals become necessary when the nerve, becomes inflamed, infected or dies. If the tooth is not treated it will lead to pain and eventually an abscess. This can be caused by deep decay, repeated dental procedures, or a chip or crack in the tooth. Trauma or a blow to the tooth can also cause this.
